The best education is the one you experience yourself”
An educational visit to the General Post Office was organised for the students of Grades III to V on 9th October, 2023, also celebrated as “World Post Day”, to enhance their learning experience on the topic “Community Helpers” and to emphasise on the hard work and dedication that goes into the smooth functioning of our society.
We started this enriching experience by getting to know the day-to-day workings at the post office. We were then taken around the post office by Mr. Satyam Sharma, Postal Assistant, and Mr. Shriniwas Joshi, Senior Post Master, who explained the various ways in which we can mail a letter, how the letters are processed, and the channels they go through before finally reaching their destination. We discovered that post offices work not just to mail letters, but also to send parcels, send and receive money and even book railway tickets, withdraw and deposit money like in a bank.
The highlight of this excursion lied in the Stamp Gallery where our students were shown a vast range of stamps. This room filled with stamps from top to bottom included a variety of stamps issued by the Indian Postal Service, with intricate designs commemorating famous personalities, monuments, festivals, wildlife, etc.The most fascinating ones being personalised stampswhere one can get one’s own picture printed on a stamp.
To add to our students’ experience with some interesting facts about stamps was Mr. Lakshmikant Jain, an avid philatelist and numismatist of Indore. At the end, the staff graciously answered many questions put up by our curious minds and added to their learning experience.
It was an insightful excursionfor the young ones where they not only learnt about the workings of a post office but also to appreciate each and every person who works devotedly to make their lives comfortable.
